§  WHEAT IN THE BARLEY

The Wheat in the Barley (they call themselves the “Wheaties”) play a great mixture of both original and traditional songs, plus outstanding instrumentals from the Celtic countries, Eastern Europe, Latin America and more, performed on a huge range of wind, string and percussion instruments.  They have created innovative interpretations of French Canadian fiddle tunes and Maritimes songs, as well as original songs and rollicking instrumentals written by members of the band.  Their music can be described as folk, world, jazz, with a little funk, reggae and Cajun, with “one foot in tradition and the other somewhere in the future.”

The Wheat in the Barley visited island schools the week of April 26.  They gave one evening performance only, at the Port Clements Community Hall on Wednesday, April 28 at 7:30 pm.  Prices are $15, $12 for Arts Council members (membership is $10/year), $5 for youth, and children under 12 are free.
