§ MICHAEL TURNER
In his youth, Michael Turner
spent summers at a salmon cannery on the Skeena River on the north-west coast
of British Columbia. There, he honed a deep love of coastal culture, visited Haida Gwaii, and absorbed
experiences that would eventually form the basis of his novel Company Town,
about a salmon-canning factory which was closing down forever. Mr. Turner’s creative energy and
cross-disciplinary writing (from literature to cinema to visual arts), and his
interest in gardens as well as Haida Gwaii will create a connection with the islands, and should
provide interesting listening at his readings.
Michael Turner gave
two free readings on the islands:
·
July 30 in Queen Charlotte at Howler’s Pub:
a literary extravaganza with Betsy Trumpener
·
August 1 am at the Fall Fair, Tlell Fairgrounds
